Driving positive impact through UNFI’s Climate Action Partnership
Vital Farms® is a leading pasture-raised egg brand in the US and they’re on a mission to bring ethical food to the table. They do everything they can to improve the lives of people, animals, and the planet through food. All Vital Farms eggs are Certified Humane and come from farms that practice pasture rotation. This provides hens with fresh forage and insects and encourages nutrient cycling on the land, which builds soil health and carbon sequestration potential in the soil. None of their farmers apply pesticides or synthetic fertilizers on their pastures, so there are no negative environmental impacts from inputs.
Vital Farms Butter starts with cows who are pasture-raised on family farms during the warm months (that’s an average of 200 days a year!). The dairy cows that produce milk for Vital Farms butter eat a 90% grass diet. To ensure a well-rounded diet, farmers work with nutritionists for the remaining 10% to supply feed consisting of grain, vitamins, and minerals to ensure a healthy and balanced blend of nutrients for the girls. Vital Farms believes that a balanced diet for a dairy cow leads to premium high-butterfat milk and a healthy, happy cow!
