                    CLIMATE ACTION - SUPPLIER SPOTLIGHT
Driving positive impact through UNFI’s Climate Action Partnership
Unlike many food companies, Amy’s manufactures their products in-house where they’re able to focus their stewardship on driving environmental resource efficiency. For instance, they recently completed a refrigeration overhaul at their Santa Rosa California plant, upgrading to natural refrigerants and replacing conventional refrigerants that are many times more potent for global warming. These natural refrigerants can have a ~4,000x lower climate impact!
Amy’s is also committed to driving the development of renewable energy without the use of unbundled Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) or carbon credits. They recently partnered with other likeminded companies to collectively build a new wind farm that none of them could have supported by themselves, using a first-of-its-kind “aggregated procurement” process they hope to see emulated by others looking to reduce their climate impact at scale.
